あらすじ・解説

This is the story of the immigration experience of two sister communities: one in the Ecuadorian Mountains, and the other on the southside of Long Island in New York. A 2008 hate-crime murder of an Ecuadoran immigrant in Patchogue, Long Island brought to light a pattern of abuse, persecution, and violence that shocked the residents of Patchogue. This quiet coastal suburban "Anytown, USA" soon had to come to terms with a sport known as “bean-jumping”, the harassment of Latinos by white youth gangs. The abuse was nothing new, however, to the residents of the Ecuadoran community in the shadows, or their family members 3000 miles away. Producer Charles Lane reported on and covered the local Patchogue story, and followed the trail back to the small townof Gualaceo in Ecuador that many of the Patchogue immigrants hailed from. He finds that the narrative of the "American Dream" is changing, and discovers in its stead a Latino Dream.
