Crime writer Amelia Child has made a living off Beyond the Glass, a book that explores the life of Gerald Shapiro, the original catfish killer. After her divorce following her husband's affair with one of his students, she takes time away from writing to focus on her daughter, until a copycat killer kidnaps one of the girls from her daughter's school. With her expertise on Gerald Shapiro, the FBI has recruited her to work with her former lover, Detective Isaac Feldmann.
Feelings start to resurface as they trace the whereabouts of the copycat killer, and she has to decide whether it would be wise to fall in love with him again. The thing is, you can't really decide not to fall in love with someone. They are racing against the clock when Amelia's daughter receives a threatening note and appears to be the next target for the copycat killer. Through online forums and Facebook groups, they delve into the disturbing world of crime buff websites and armchair detectives.
