Nothing feels greater than taking your 10 first steps in America. The biggest step is getting here to America. Now that you’re here and learned America’s language, the third most important step is here inside this book. The third most important step is credit. Credit is going to determine what you will make out of your time here in America. Life can be hard, especially without any guidance. But life is always better with credit and I’m here to offer a guide to you.
This book offers a guide for new immigrants to the United States on establishing financial stability through understanding and building credit. It emphasizes that credit is a non-discriminatory tool for success in America, regardless of one's background or past. I outline the basics of credit scores, inquiries, and different types of credit accounts, stressing the importance of consistent payment history. It also warns against common credit score pitfalls, such as closing accounts or accumulating excessive inquiries. The book then provides a practical plan, illustrated through a real-life example, for building credit from scratch, including obtaining a driver's license, securing employment, and strategically managing finances. Finally, I share a personal strategy for rapidly establishing a strong credit profile, utilizing tools like Kikoff, Credit Strong, and Self, and leveraging authorized user status on established credit cards. Congratulations on your fresh start and good luck on your journey. Together we can get you headed in the right direction. You don’t need to hear a million words to get great advice. You only need to listen to the words I write to get great advice.
