"With eyes planted firmly on the future, this entry in the Searchlight Books: What's Cool about Science? series examines the science behind cryobiology - the effects of cold on living things - and the outcomes it may eventually have on human life. In four clear, concise chapters, accompanied by glossy close-up photos of technological gear and frozen organs, this explains the effects, both preservative and damaging, of cold on bodies and examines the natural reactions of animals (i.e., hibernation), before more thoroughly discussing the potential for freezing - and perhaps one day reanimating - human bodies. While the science for bringing the frozen dead (human or extinct animal) back to life or freezing astronauts for long space journeys is far off, cryobiology has many uses in modern-day science and surgery, and this provides a level account both of these and of future possibilities."
