Nothing works in this story

It’s a prequel to Behawiorysta by the same author. I understand the plan by Mroz to inflate his previous book by creating more lore for his protagonist, but, just like for the previous book I’m this book as well nothing works. The psychology of the characters is inconsistent and strictly follows the author’s fixed plot.
It shows that Mroz improved a bit his writing skills by trying to switch back and forth between past and present, but it’s so in the face and clumsy that one reads/listens to the book with a cringe. Also, it’s good that Mroz took the time to check the names of Ray Birdwhistel and Paul Ekman, and I understand that throwing additional trivia in the book is a method to add some value, but it’s so detached and “by the way”, that it doesn’t make any sense. Writing a bit more about the scientific conflict between those two and fitting it into the story a bit would be much more interesting and would give the scientific trivia more purpose. Also, apparently, Mroz understood that it’s difficult to write a book about an expert in behaviorism, so in this book Gerard Edling is not yet the “super-behaviorist.” It’s good because the previous book depicted the expert knowledge very poorly and not a single actual expert in human emotions would act the way it was depicted in the book. With Behawiorysta Mroz wanted to create something like a book version of Lie to Me in Polish environment. Unfortunately it clearly shows that he did not have a support of actual experts in the field. This book was purely a filler for anyone feeling some sentiment towards the main character. Both books were a waste of time. But that’s probably inevitable when an author puts more importance on the number of written books rather then the quality of each of them.
