あらすじ・解説
"How does a democracy turn itself into a dictatorship?"
This was the question George Lucas asked when he started writing the Star Wars prequel trilogy in the mid-90s. In this audiobook, Konspiracy Kyle chronicles the authoritarian tactics and traits used by Palpatine in the prequels as he rose from senator to chancellor to emperor - these machinations are compared to the methods used by totalitarian leaders and authoritarian psychopaths in our world (spoiler alert: they are very similar). This audiobook walks through the Hegelian dialectic (problem, reaction, solution) as well as a new framework dubbed the StarWarsian dialectic (crisis, consent, and control) to show how galactic citizens and Earthbound citizens alike can be persuaded to trust the government through lies, deceit and manipulated events.
Time and time again, we are fraudulently told to consent to the government's authority because they are trying to "keep us safe". Through over 150 footnotes and references, Konspiracy Kyle shows us that the Galactic Empire in the Star Wars galaxy is no different than totalitarian regimes in our galaxy. Just as the empire was eventually thwarted, the authoritarians in our world can also be defeated....but you have to have hope.
