Growing up in the small town, conservative confines of southern Texas, her native Port Arthur didn’t have a whole lot to offer the artistically inclined. Nevertheless, she was destined to rocket to fame as a musician and cultural icon.

Joplin headed out west and made it big with Big Brother and the Holding Company in San Francisco, California, before embarking upon a solo career. She would record two solo albums, showcasing her immense talent and unique style, before her sudden and unexpected demise in 1970. Her death shocked the world, but the short time she was with us still managed to speak volumes. This book covers the life and legend of Janis Joplin in full.
