Krumping was a movement with humble and unlikely origins. In 1992 Tommy Johnson was a children's entertainer in Los Angeles' South Central region. Although Hip-Hop was born in the New York borough of Brooklyn, South Central and particularly the suburb of Compton is considered its West Coast hub, spawning seminal and controversial artists such as N.W.A and Ice-T. South Central was also synonymous with poverty and crime. This characterized a lot of the Hip-Hop being produced in the area.
