あらすじ・解説
This is the last book in the tetralogy about diet and disease.
First came Diabetes, Prediabetes, and Obesity, explaining why we have them and what to do about it. Next is the Ketogenic Diet for Beginners, which goes into detail about the best weight loss diet (excluding fasting) we currently have. Next is Autophagy for the Common Man, an explanation about this mechanism by which the body restores itself and how we can activate it. Finally, this book helps the family's food engineer to develop a lifetime diet for the extended family.
These are information books, and in all, I count on your common sense to use the information wisely. Upon completion, you will know more than most of the healthcare providers you will be seeing. I want you to use this information to evaluate all the different diet claims form multiple sources, including me.
There is no doubt that obesity, diabetes, cancer, and autoimmune disease is increasing in incidence in the United States over the last 70 years. I present the case that the modern diet, both the ingredients and the processing, may be the primary cause of this epidemic. This book primarily is focused on how to prevent disease. The other books are more focused on how to treat these problems.
There is not medical advice. I may not be a real doctor or have any special knowledge in this area. It is up to you to use your current knowledge base and common sense to see if you agree with some or all of my allegations. Although our current medical science can sometimes perform treatments that seem like miracles, they are poor in offering any diet advice. Giving people diet advice is not dramatic and does not give you any instant gratification. There is virtually no training in diet, nutrition, or exercise in medical training, What training that is available is vague and not even quantifiable.
By far the most common weight loss advice is to "eat less and exercise more", which is the most often-failed diet available. I have never seen a healthcare provider advise fasting to anyone. The clinical studies in this area are difficult to perform and often influenced by our government's advice over the last 50 years to eat a low-fat diet, advice that is one of the main reasons we have this epidemic to start with. Unfortunately, dietitians and nutritionist have blindly promoted this advice. Listen to the book, and make your own decision.
