This is a story from the "Great Ghost Stories" collection.
A spine-tingling collection of classic ghost stories - a perfect way to pass those long winter nights! This set contains "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe, "The Horla" by Guy de Maupassant, "Sredni Vashtar" by Saki, "The Mark of the Beast" by Rudyard Kipling, "Lost Hearts" by M.R. James and "The Furnished Room" by O. Henry.

When the narrator of "The Horla" sees a ship floating on the Seine, he is filled with such joy that he waves to the vessel as it passes by. In a few days, however, he begins to feel ill and has nightmares that cause him a great deal of anxiety. He soon becomes convinced that there is some other being in the house with him, but what could it be? Guy de Maupassant cleverly uses the narrator's diary as device to chart his mounting distress, and Dermot Kerrigan gives a remarkable performance, capturing the narrator's madness with a paranoid ferocity.
