A few key insights from Chapter 1:
1. Growing up in Vancouver, Seth Rogen was lucky to have parents who were supportive of his dream of becoming a stand-up comedian. At age 12, he began enrolling in stand-up comedy workshops, where he’d perform nights at a local lesbian bar.
2. One of the first lessons Rogen learned about comedy was that it wasn’t supposed to be about things that you liked. People wanted to hear about things you disliked, or wanted to change. For Rogen, he thought of his grandparents, whom he strongly disliked spending time with.
3. As Rogen began performing more stand-up routines, he saw the time he spent with his grandparents no longer as painful, but as potential comedy material. As the years went on, he gradually saw how much his grandparents loved him, and learned to love them just as much.
