This Is My Story is about a Chicago girl born to an alcoholic teenage mother who becomes a teenage mother herself, who at 19 marries an abusive military husband. When she somehow finds the strength to leave him, she inadvertently runs into the arms of another man who almost kills her then two-year-old son, leaving him with a traumatic brain injury (TBI). The girl turned woman spends her young life trying to escape one tragedy after another. Will God ever give her a break? 

This story is a compelling memoir that details her struggles with surviving domestic violence since a child to losing her son to her abusive husband. She goes on to suffer from mental illnesses - bipolar depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) - several hospitalizations, and an unsuccessful suicide attempt just months before her college graduation. She shares her story with great emotional and intimately deep details that allow you to feel her pain and disappointment. Despite her experiences with great loss and emotional and physical pain, she still strives to encourage her audience to never give up and that suicide is never the answer.
