このコンテンツについて
Joining us from home is post-doctoral research scientist Dr Tim Gregory, whose book Meteorite brings us not just the story of our planet, but the origins of the solar system in a comprehensible form.
Dr Tim Gregory grew up in Yorkshire and has always had a fascination with science, mainly space and rocks. Gregory has a degree in Geology with Planetary Science, and a PhD in Cosmochemistry. While studying for his degree, Gregory took part in a 10 week internship with NASA's Johnson Space Centre – perhaps predisposing him to apply for BBC2 series Astronauts: Do You Have What It Takes?. Gregory has also appeared on several episodes of The Sky at Night, and in BBC's Bitesize sessions recorded during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Gregory works full time as a post doctoral research scientist at the British Geological Survey in Nottingham. His research focuses on measuring the age of meteorites and the building blocks of planets. His desire to bring the awe-inspiring scale of time to the general public led to the writing of Meteorite, with which he aims to enrapture listeners with the science behind these rocky fragments.
We'll be chatting to Dr Tim Gregory about why meterorites are so interesting, what they can tell us about both the earth and space, and why he sometimes compares himself to a timelord!
