02. Intravenous Immune Globulin (IVIG) Explained

  • The term “immune globulin” refers to the fraction of blood plasma that contains immunoglobulins, or antibodies. Individuals who are unable to produce adequate amounts of Ig or antibodies, such as patients with CVID, Hyper-IgM Syndromes, Wiskott Aldrich Syndrome or other forms of antibody deficiency or autoimmune state may benefit from replacement therapy with Ig.

     In this episode, Noorali Hirani, RN, BSN, IgCN discusses IVIG, how it works, and what patients can expect from IVIG therapy.

    Noorali Hirani is a Certified Registered Nurse and owner of Umanity Nursing Services Inc. Noorali started his nursing career in the Emergency Department, and began immunoglobulin infusion therapy in 2017. Since then, he has held numerous roles in the field of nursing, including emergency services, nurse manager, nursing consultant, recruiter, and business administrator.

    Noorali completed his nursing degree from Saddleback College in Orange County, California, and went on to obtain his Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Ohio State University. After realizing he wanted to specialize in Immunoglobulin Therapy, he went on to obtain his specialized certification as an Immunoglobulin Certified Nurse.
