12. Michael Klim On: Life After Sport, The Importance of Mindset and Balance and Why He Won’t Let CIDP Break His Spirit

  • サマリー

  • Today’s guest is swimming superstar and sporting legend, Michael Klim. At 18 years of age, in 1995, Michael Klim was named Australian Swimming Rookie of the Year. He won a bronze medal in his first Olympic appearance in the 1996 Atlanta Games setting the stage for his meteoric rise and began breaking world records the following year.

At the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, Klim won two gold and two silver medals. After retiring in 2007, Klim returned to swimming in 2011 with the hope of reaching the 2012 London Olympics and reached the semi-finals in both the 100m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly at the Australian Championships before again announcing his retirement.

In 2020, Klim was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame. This massive high was met with a massive low as 2020 was also the year Michael was diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder that turned his world upside down called chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, or CIDP.

Beyond the pool, Michael is a dedicated philanthropist, entrepreneur, speaker, soon-to-be author and proud father of 3 who prioritises a robust work-life balance across his family and entrepreneurial pursuits. In today’s motivating and insightful episode, we talk about life after sport, the importance of mindset and balance and why he won’t let CIDP break his spirit.
