  • サマリー

  • Barbara Schiltz is a registered nurse, nutrition educator and consultant in private practice who gained experience in the research world as a research investigator at The Functional Medicine Research Center (FMRC) in Gig Harbor, Washington. After mentoring for 8 years with Serafina Corsello, MD, a nutritional medical doctor in New York City, she moved to Seattle in 1995 to attend Bastyr University and began working with Jeffrey Bland, Ph.D. in Gig Harbor at the FMRC where she monitored patients undergoing clinical trials for diabetes, metabolic syndrome, osteoarthritis, irritable bowel disease, fibromyalgia, ADHD, and PMS.

Her passion was expressed in her Master’s Thesis, The Unique Role of Carbohydrate Metabolism in Regulation of Glycemic Index . Subsequently, she was instrumental in the development of the low glycemic index dietary program, initially for the FMRC, and subsequently for FirstLine Therapy. In 2007, after 11 years at the FMRC, Barb attempted to “retire” to her island home on Whidbey Island in Washington. Since then she has been a consultant for the FMRC and also for the Institute for Functional Medicine and Big Bold Health.

Barb has a son and 2 daughters living in New York, Arizona, and Washington. As her three grandchildren live in New York, she travels several times a year to visit them. Gardening is a passion that she is able to express at her new home. She loves to cook and develop healthy gourmet recipes, for herself and her patients, especially using Big Bold Health’s Himalayan Tartary buckwheat in new recipes!
