このコンテンツについて

Travis Ganong is an American World Cup and Olympic alpine downhill ski racer, specializing in the speed events of downhill and super-G. He was born and raised in Truckee, CA and was a member of the Squaw Valley Ski Team, now Palisades Tahoe. Travis earned a silver medal in the downhill at the 2015 World Championships in Beaver Creek, Colorado. He’s competed in two Olympic Games, first in Sochi in 2014 and last year in Beijing. Ganong also has two world cup downhill wins to his name and is regarded as one of the top U.S. downhillers of the last decade. In the episode Travis and I discuss:

  • Early season training in Chile
  • Travis’s life-long love for skiing, regardless of the weather conditions
  • How sports science has changed and allowed athletes to extend their careers much later into life than in previous generations
  • The interplay between the technical, tactical, physical and mental aspects of ski racing
  • How training on Dog Leg at Squaw Valley prepared him for World Cup racing
  • The world cup coming to Palisades Tahoe this February and Palisades ongoing olympic bid
  • Learning to view ski racing as a professional pursuit, especially with regards to physical conditioning
  • The Bizarre Beijing Olympics and scheming to escape to a nearby hot springs while there
  • Travis’s ski racing inspirations, Daron Rahlves and Marco Sullivan
  • The elusive Kitzbuhel podium
  • Travis’s company (Pacific Crest Coffee) and what life might look after ski racing and various other topics
