  • The Search for Significance

In this episode I offer up my perspective on the foundational source for significance. Significance is an authentic need every human shares. How this need is designed to be met at the most fundamental level is my focus as I briefly discuss common means significance is realized over and against what I see to be the primary source for our significance.

Here are some scriptures I have drawn from for my four "truth statements":

    Statement #1: Genesis 1:26-27; 2:7; Psalms 8:3-6; 139:13-16; Jeremiah 1:5; Job 33:4; Acts 17:26-28 Statement #2: Genesis 1:26-27; Psalms 8:3-6; Jeremiah 1:5; Ephesians 2:10; Romans 8:28-30; 1 Peter 4:10; 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 Statement #3: Genesis 3:1-24; Romans 3:23; 5:12-21; 6:23; John 3:16-18; Ephesians 2:8-9; Galatians 2:16; 1 Peter 1:8-9 Statement #4: Romans 5:28; 1 John 3:1; Ephesians 1:4-6; Titus 3:4-7

Some listening to this episode may find themselves being triggered negatively or deeply troubled by my first “truth” statement about our origin due to personally experiencing or knowing someone with a severe birth defect, deformity, or mental handicap developed in the womb or caused by the birth process. If that is you I have the deepest compassion. I understand how that kind of experience can raise the question of how these outcomes could be the product of a wise, loving, and powerful Creator. I did not have time in this episode to address the age-old question of how a good God could allow suffering. I will simply say for now that these tragic situations do not reflect on the character or nature of God but rather on the nature of the fallen, imperfect world in which we live. Even in situations that do not reflect God’s good and perfect will in this world, God can and does leverage these things for good for those who love him and are called according to his purpose. See Romans 8:18-39.
