  • The Power of Prayer
    2019/03/24
The message this week transitions between our mini-series on the importance of prayer and our on-going series on the book of Matthew. In our series on prayer, we have considered the privilege, priority, place, pattern and persistence of prayer. This message discusses the power of prayer from a consideration of the interaction that Jesus had after He had descended from the mountain with Peter, James and John. Over the past two weeks, we considered 'The Pattern of Prayer' using the acronym P.R.A.Y. as a teaching tool. (P.R.A.Y. stands for Praise - Repent - Ask - Yield). When Jesus descended, He found His disciples being confronted by a raucous crowd. A man had brought his son to Jesus to be healed. Apparently His disciples had attempted to peform the feat but were unable. After Jesus heals the boy by casting out the demon, His disciples were curious why they could not cast out the demon. In the instruction of Jesus we see the importance of both faith and fasting in our prayer lives. This message was presented on Sunday, March 24, 2019 by Bob Corbin.

  • The Persistence of Prayer
    2019/03/17
We are in the fifth week of a mini-series on the importance of prayer in the life of a believer and the church. Prayer is communication with God in worship that is based upon our relationship with Him. Such an incredible privilege is revealed in the priority that we place upon prayer both as a private act of personal worship and as a public act of collective worship. Over the past two weeks, we considered 'The Pattern of Prayer' using the acronym P.R.A.Y. as a teaching tool. (P.R.A.Y. stands for Praise - Repent - Ask - Yield). Last week we examined the Biblical classifications of prayer requests (intercession and supplication) and two conditions that are attached to our asking ... asking in faith and in obedience. The final facet of praying (Yielding) is probably the most important and is fittingly juxtaposed to our next major topic of consideration: The Persistence of Prayer. Today, we will seek to examine each and find a balance. This message was presented on Sunday, March 17, 2019 by Bob Corbin.

  • The Pattern of Prayer (Pt 2)
    2019/03/10
We are in the fourth week of a mini-series on the importance of prayer in the life of a believer and the church. Prayer is communication with God in worship that is based upon our relationship with Him. Such an incredible privilege is revealed in the priority that we place upon prayer both as a private act of personal worship and as a public act of collective worship. Last week, we began looking at the Scriptures regarding how we are to pray. We are using the acronym P.R.A.Y. as a teaching tool to remind ourselves of the various facets of prayer. That stands for Praise - Repent - Ask - Yield. In that message, we discussed the concepts of Praising God for who He is and what He has done ... and Repenting of our sins. This message discusses the asking facet of prayer. This message was presented on Sunday, March 10, 2019 by Bob Corbin.

  • The Pattern of Prayer (Pt 1)
    2019/03/03
We are in the midst of a mini-series on the importance of prayer in the life of a believer and the church. Prayer is communication with God in worship that is based upon our relationship with Him. What an incredible privilege that we have been afforded to have spiritual communion with the Creator of the Universe! Such an incredible privilege should be seen in the priority that we place upon prayer both as a private act of personal worship and as a public act of collective worship. However, many people still seem to struggle in their "conversation" with God. What do I say? What should I talk about? Jesus' disciples struggled in a similar manner. The first disciples struggled in similar manner. We read in Luke 11:1 Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, 'Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.' In both Luke 11 and Matthew 6, Jesus taught His disciples to pray in a similar manner including specific concepts. I like to use the acronym P.R.A.Y. to remind myself and instruct others on the various facets of prayer. That stands for Praise - Repent - Ask - Yield. We will be discussing the first two of those facets today. This message was presented on Sunday, March 3, 2019 by Bob Corbin.

  • The Priority and Place of Prayer
    2019/02/24
What an incredible privilege that we have been afforded to have spiritual communion with the Creator of the Universe! Before God ever layed the foundation of the earth, He knew that He would create man in His image and likeness, man would rebel against Him, and that He would come to pay the penalty of our sins in order that we might be able to have fellowship with Him. Prayer is communication with God in worship that is based upon our relationship with Him. Since we have this great privilege of prayer, it would follow that it would be important to us. Those things which are important to us are reflected in our priorities. Where does praying fall on your list of priorities? This message was presented on Sunday, February 24, 2019 by Bob Corbin.

  • The Privilege of Prayer
    2019/02/17
A focus on prayer cannot be overstated. It is one of the primary injunctions given to the church. In Matthew 6:5-9, three times Jesus presents the assumption that His followers will pray and twice He gives an injunction/command for them to pray. In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17, Paul commands believers to'pray without ceasing.' This message begins to look at the importance of prayer in the life of the believer, and the church collectively, by considering the privilege of prayer. First, however, we must ask the question: What is prayer? According to secular dictionaries, Prayer is 'a reverent petition made to God, a god, or another object of worship. ... An act of communion with God, a god, or another object of worship.' They define communion as 'the act or an instance of sharing, as of thoughts or feelings. Religious or spiritual fellowship' As we will see, prayer is communication with God in worship! As we consider the privilege that we have to pray to the Creator God of the Universe, we must first consider who He is and then who we are! God is. He is God alone; there is no other God! The Bible tells us that all other 'gods' are demons in disguise! The one and only true God is omniscient (all-knowing), omnipresent (everywhere present at the same time), and omnipotent (all-power). We, on the other hand, are created, sinful beings who have been privileged to be redeemed by His grace and mercy. But, His grace extends even further, not only has He redeemed us but He has brought us into a special relationship with Him. He has adopted us to be 'Sons of God' and has given the church to be the 'Bride of Christ.'This message was presented on Sunday, February 17, 2019 by Bob Corbin.
