In 1985, the Coca-Cola Company introduced "New Coke." it was supposed to be better than the original Coke.

In modern times, electric vehicles, or EVs, have been promised to us to be better than the gas-powered cars we drive now.

However, with limited range that makes long-distance travel a challenge because you have to stop and charge the car, which could take much longer than pumping gas, and with charging stations harder to find than gas stations, most Americans are not in a hurry to replace their Toyota with a Tesla.

Plus, there is a higher price tag for EVs, higher insurance cost, and more expensive repairs for electric.

For most middle-class families, EVs are just not an option that fits their budget. I'm all for technology and progress, but EVs currently are not the solution.

There are too many issues that need to be solved that will take years to fix for EVs to become the car of choice for most drivers.

Toyota has not invested as much in EVs as other car manufacturers have because they are smart and know there are problems with EVs and long-term EVs are probably not gonna be a huge market.

I believe people should have options, and if they want an EV, they should buy one. Tesla's technology looks really cool, and depending on your lifestyle and travel needs, an EV could save you money if you use it for traveling back and forth to work, for example.

That being said, I hope EVs don't turn out to be the next New Coke because they went back to the original formula after New Coke failed.
