One of the most powerful testimonies in the New Testament of the transforming power of the gospel among a group of people is seen in the opening versus of 1 Thessalonians. There Paul thanked God for the clear and obvious evidence of his mighty saving work in the lives of the Thessalonian Christians. It happened then. It can happen now!

  • Draw Near to God with David
    2024/11/14

    Send us a text

After God has established a covenant with David and his household David comes before the presence of Yahweh God. David's prayer of response can teach us much about prayer. Prayer is an intentional come before God in humility to present our acknowledgement of him and to ask him to fulfill his will.

  • Prayer- Calling upon the LORD
    2024/11/08

    Send us a text

The first mention of prayer in the Bible is Genesis 4:26. To Seth also a son was born, and he called his name Enosh. At that time people began to call upon the name of the Lord. LORD is Yahweh. This simple phrase, calling upon the name Yahweh, functions as basic definition of prayer, a vital experience of the Christian life.

  • Reformation Truths Recovered
    2024/10/29

    Send us a text

We must look to the inspired Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments for both the substance and as the final or ultimate authority for our teaching and practice. To the inspired, inscripturated Word alone do we find the answer to the burning question, How does a person find acceptance with the all holy God? All humans are sinners and sin is against God's nature! How then can I, a fallen sinful human ever be welcomed into God presence by the forgiveness of my sin and righteousness?
Looking to the Bible alone, all of the Protestant Reformers of the 16th century came to see that the answer is the nature of Jesus Christ's suffering for sin once for all, and we connect to him by personal faith. It is by grace alone through faith in the living Lord Jesus Christ who died on our behalf and was raised from the dead for our justification and ascended into heaven where he serves as our Advocate, our High Priest. Romans 5: 9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. This is the core of the gospel recovered at the Protestant Reformations.

  • Agony of Scripture Misinterpretation
    2024/10/23

    Send us a text

In a sense we could say that the spiritual renewal of gospel that happened in the 16th century with the Protestant Reformers was sparked by a discovery of a correct translation and interpretation of two verses of Scripture. Luther came to see that Matthew 4:17 which had been mistranslated by Jerome as penance( From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say: Do penance, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.,Douay) should read, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” It was not telling people to do a performance of penance but calling them to a change of mind.
The second verse is Romans 1:17-18 " For in it (gospel) the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith. For God’s wrath is revealed from heaven against all godlessness and unrighteousness of people.." Luther had thought the phrase was speaking of God's direct total holiness and righteousness by which we are judged and damned. But one day by God's grace he saw the verse was referring to a passive righteousness God grants, donates, gives to the one believing in Jesus. This credited righteousness of Jesus is put to the believers account and thus we have acceptance with the righteous God. When this truth came to Luther's understanding he was born again. Quotes from Luther Preface to the Complete Edition of Luther's Latin Writings. It was
written by Luther in Wittenberg, 1545.via REFORMATION INK (www.markers.com/ink)

  • Prepare the Way of Yahweh
    2024/10/17

    Send us a text

John the Immersionist (baptizer) appeared in the wilderness of Judea on the banks of the Jordan River proclaiming, Prepare the way for Yahweh! He is the prophesied Forerunner of the Messiah in fulfillment of the prophecy of Malachi and Isaiah and he prophecy of his own father, Zacharchi at his birth. And his father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied, saying, Luke 1v 76ff:
    And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High;
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
to give knowledge of salvation to his people
in the forgiveness of their sins,
because of the tender mercy of our God,
whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high
to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Mark begins his good news announcement with the message of John concerning the soon appearing of Messiah, King of God's Kingdom. He summons the people of Israel to repentance from the lifestyle of commandment breaking of the Mosaic (Law) Covenant to a heart obedience to Yahweh. He preaches repentance, a conversion to God marked by a new ritual sign of immersion, dipping in the river. He was proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. Luke 3:3

In his quoting from Isaiah and Malachi he identifies Jesus as the Son of God and in the quotations from this earlier prophets John gives testimony to the divinity of Jesus, the Messenger of the Covenant who is identified as the arrival of Yahweh!

  • Our Desperate Need of God's Grace
    2024/10/05

    Send us a text

Paul in both his letter to the Roman Christians and the believers in Ephesus gives us a picture of our natural state as humans from birth. It is not a picture of innocence or even of a neutral state but one of spiritual death, captivity and rebellion. In fact it is a state of condemnation from birth awaiting execution!

Romans 5: 12 sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—
v.15 many died through one man's trespass
v.16 the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation

John 3:17-18 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Ephesians 2:1-3 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.
