Although not with the team for at least a month, former Nebraska defensive back Syncere Safeeullah announced on social media Sunday that he would be entering the transfer portal. Safeeullah came to Lincoln as part of Matt Rhule’s first class, redshirting in 2023 and not appearing in a game this fall. On the recruiting trail, a Nebraska commit has flipped to Kansas. Bryson Hayes, a three-star wide receiver who boasts 4.3 speed in the 40, is electing to stay closer to his home in Maize, Kansas. Next up is a home matchup against Southern on Tuesday at 7 p.m. CST on B1G+. In the latest AP Poll, the Huskers are up two spots to No. 21. The top-10 teams are South Carolina, UConn, USC, Texas, UCLA, Notre Dame, LSU, Iowa State, Oklahoma, and Kansas State. Other Big Ten teams outside of the top 10 are Maryland at 11, Ohio State at 12, Illinois at 23, and Oregon at 25. The Huskers host Fairleigh Dickinson Wednesday at 7 p.m. CST on B1G+. Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg spoke earlier today on the team’s performance. Turning our attention now to some Husker Headlines, a pair of ESPN writers have Nebraska going to the Rate Bowl in Arizona on Dec. 26, with one pitting NU against Baylor and the other saying Texas Tech. Got to win a game first, and that starts this Friday where the Big Red are underdogs by more than a touchdown. In other Husker Headlines, the Common Fans assess the state of the Husker football program while honoring America’s veterans. And Nebraska volleyball continues to be one of the best shows on the road, as Maren Angus-Coombs writes that three-of-the-last-four matches have resulted in attendance records for Husker opponents.

It was also another record attendance match with Nebraska’s involvement, as Matthew Knight Arena had 8,566 on hand, nearly 12-hundred more than the previous record set last year.

Kaleb Henry takes you through the latest in Nebraska Cornhuskers news.

Nebraska volleyball begins its Pacific Northwest swing tonight at No. 12 Oregon. First serve is set for 9 p.m. CST. The Huskers are 4-3 all-time against the Ducks, but this is the first time the two teams will meet in Eugene. Oregon won the last matchup against Nebraska, beating the Big Red in five sets in the Regional Semifinal in Louisville. NU coach John Cook vividly remembers how then-freshman Mimi Colyer played, with 26 kills in the match.

A former Nebraska softball coach has passed away after a battle with cancer. Mark Watt served as a volunteer coach at NU after a 25-year coaching career at the high school level. Between Lincoln Southeast and Lincoln Southwest, Watt’s teams earned 579 wins and four Class A state championships. Nebraska head coach Rhonda Revelle on social media today called Watt a “legendary coach, master teacher, incredible mentor & role model, true friend, loyal & loving father and husband”, adding “The world is a better place because of YOU. You are loved deeply by the Red Team. We will carry your spirit w/us.”

Nebraska wrestling opens the 2024-25 season at No. 3 in InterMat’s rankings for both tournament and dual. The Huskers trail fellow Big Ten programs Penn State and Iowa in both. Other Big Ten teams in the top 10 include Ohio and Michigan for the tournament rankings and Ohio State and Minnesota for the dual rankings. NU opens the season Friday at home against Utah Valley.

Nebraska men’s basketball is 1-0 and looking to stay unblemished this Saturday. Coach Fred Hoiberg met with the media this morning after some intense practices and film sessions.

Nebraska women’s basketball announced a time change for an upcoming game today. The Huskers will take on the South Dakota Coyotes Nov. 16 at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls. The game was originally scheduled for 5 p.m. CST, but has been pushed back to 7 p.m. CST due to Nebraska football kicking off against USC that afternoon at 3 p.m. CST. Another change to the game comes by way of television, as Nebraska volleyball is on the Big Ten Network at that new time, meaning the women’s basketball game is expected to shift to B1G+.

Also today for Nebraska women’s basketball, senior Alexis Markowski has been named to the preseason women's top 50 watch list for the Los Angeles Athletic Club John R. Wooden Award. Chosen by a preseason poll of national college basketball experts, the list is made up of 50 student-athletes who are early front-runners for one of the most prestigious honors in college basketball - the Wooden Award All-America Team and Most Outstanding Player Award. She joins a dozen other players from the Big Ten Conference on the list.

Turning our attention now to some Husker Headlines, TJ Berkel asks if apathy is coming for Nebraska fans as he and the Common Fans crew chat with the Omaha World-Herald’s Evan Bland. Tanner Johnson is curious about what’s going wrong at USC under Lincoln Riley, who was one of the hottest names in the sport just a couple of years ago.

Kaleb Henry takes you through the latest in Nebraska Cornhuskers news, from volleyball's upcoming late night matches to a Big Ten blood drive to the start of wrestling season.

Nebraska volleyball is halfway through a four game road swing. That now extends west, really west, as the Huskers head to new Big Ten members Oregon and Washington. Both games will tip after 9 p.m. CST, something John Cook is preparing his team for.

The Big Ten is deep into a competition to save lives. The We Give Blood Drive has Abbott and the Big Ten pitting school against school in the largest blood donation competition of our lifetime to fight the largest blood shortage in a generation. The drive continued today at Memorial Stadium, where I was able to catch up with Ellen Wichman from Abbott.

The latest numbers have Nebraska’s dominance continuing, nearly doubling-up second-place Wisconsin. UCLA, Michigan, and Iowa round out the top five. For more information on this competition and to find out how to give with your donation counting to the school of your choice’s total, visit BigTen.org/Abbott.

Turning our attention now to some Husker Headlines, Tanner Johnson gives his latest Big Ten Football Hot Seat Index, where Nebraska’s Matt Rhule is sitting at room temperature. USC’s Lincoln Riley and Michigan’s Sherrone Moore’s seats are hot while Purdue’s Ryan Walters’ seat is scorching. Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule Monday said he would be bringing in "a fresh set of eyes" to look at the operation in Lincoln. We now know who those fresh eyes below to, as multiple reports indicate Dana Holgorsen has been added an offensive consultant and Phil Snow a defensive consultant. Holgorsen was previously the head coach at Houston and West Virginia and has worked with some high powered offenses. Snow was Rhule’s defensive coordinator at Temple and Baylor, and then followed him back to the NFL with the Carolina Panthers.

The USC Trojans will reportedly have a different starting quarterback when the Nebraska Cornhuskers visit Los Angeles next week. A report from 247Sports says Miller Moss is being benched in favor of Jayden Maiava. The UNLV transfer took over the Rebels partway into last season, leading the team to the Mountain West Conference title game while earning Mountain West Freshman of the Year.

Nebraska men’s basketball opened the season with an 87-67 win over UT Rio Grand Valley Monday evening. Brice Williams scored the first eight points of the game, showing early that he's "the guy" for the Big Red this season. Williams finished with 27 points while Rollie Wooster poured in 18 to go with nine rebounds.

The debut of the new postgame show from HuskerMax and the I-80 Club followed the Husker men’s win. Jack Mitchell, Jacob Bigelow, and I gave our thoughts during After Nebrasketball on the win to open the 2024-25 campaign.

During the season-opening win for Nebraska women’s basketball, senior Alexis Markowski moved into sole possession of first place on the program’s all-time double-double chart. Markowski moves past two Husker legends in Jordan Hooper and Kelsey Griffin.

Turning our attention now to some Husker Headlines, TJ Birkel says Nebraska doesn’t feel close to turning the corner after a third straight loss, adding that he’s tired of moral victories. Tanner Johnson gives Dylan Raiola a C+ for his efforts in the loss, even with an early exit.

In other Husker Headlines, Husker Dan wonders if Nebraska will get a win in November, comparing NU’s situation to being down by one run in the bottom of the ninth and legendary Yankees closer Mariano Rivera on the bump. As for Nebraska’s bowl projections, a pair of ESPN writers have the Huskers headed to the Rate Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona against either Baylor or TCU. That game is slated for Dec. 26.
