    Amaka shares her expertise on the use of convexity with ostomy patients along their pre-op and post-op journey.

    Amaka Akinade is a board-certified Advance Practice Nurse, Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse. She graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, obtained her Master of Nursing as an adult clinical nurse specialist from the University of Washington in Seattle, and then pursued her post-master as a family nurse practitioner at Texas A&M Corpus Christi. She is pursuing her doctorate in nursing and practices as an outpatient wound ostomy nurse practitioner at a large accountable care organization. She serves as a leader and clinical resource for colleagues, and she also utilizes her expertise to promote the care of patients.

Dr. Wiegand discusses different treatment options for urinary retention including intermittent catheterization and surgical reconstruction of the urethra.

    Guest bio: Dr. Luke Wiegand is a board-certified urologist with Orlando Health Medical Group Urology specializing in reconstructive urology. Sought after for second opinions and complex case referrals, he strives to communicate honestly and directly with his patients to help put them at ease and achieve their goal of returning to their normal lives.

    Dr. Wiegand earned his medical degree and completed his urology residency at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa. He was chief resident in his final year. Dr. Wiegand performed his fellowship in reconstructive urology at Washington University in St. Louis, where he supervised residents in general urology and reconstructive urologic procedures. He serves as assistant editor of the Video Journal of Prosthetic Urology. He is the author of several medical textbook chapters and is a frequent contributor to peer-reviewed journals.

    Dr. Wiegand is board-certified by the American Board of Urology. His professional memberships include the American Urologic Association, Florida Urological Society, and the Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons.

    Working with teens with ostomies is a unique situation. Kim Fields shares her expertise and some best practices when working with this population.

    Guest bio: Kim Fields is a Registered Nurse and certified in wound, ostomy and continence. She has been a pediatric nurse for over 20 years. She currently practices at a level one trauma, academic hospital that includes a free-standing children’s hospital. Her current practice area is focused on the pediatric wound and ostomy population. Kim has provided over 11 years of camp service at Youth Rally, a summer camp for kids ages 10-17 with bowel and bladder conditions. She has also traveled internationally to assist with mobile clinics and education.
