サマリー
あらすじ・解説
A woman lived in Sychar, a city of Samaria, had had five husbands. In order not to be shunned by the villagers, this woman went to Jacob’s well to draw water with a water pitcher on her head at noon when everyone went off to take a nap. One day at around noon, she came to draw water as usual, but there was Jesus sitting next to the well. As she came by the well and was drawing up water, Jesus asked her, “Woman, give me a drink.” As she looked at this Man, she realized that He had an appearance of a Jew. Jewish attire consisted of a blanket-like cloth that is wrapped around the body and then thrown on top of the shoulder. Jesus had such Jewish cloth on Him. This woman questioned Jesus, “How could you, as a Jew, ask me, a Samaritan woman, to give you water?” This woman said these words because Samaritans and Jews, although they both belonged to the nation of Israel, had a wall between them in each other’s hearts. This woman said these words because Jews considered Samaritans, who were mixed-blooded, to be very lowly, treated them with contempt and ignored them.
