  • Chacalon or Papa Chacalon was a Vernacular Peruvian singer, who created a sound, mixed with some direct and emotional letters, that people called “Cholos” danced, especially on Sundays, in a Mega concert improvised place, called: La Carpa Grau! Was the place where the young people that lived in the hills and the desserts, surrounded this gigant and collapsed city called Lima.

    La Chola, is a woman of any age who originally came from the Andean’s. They arrive very young leaving their mountain, animals and starts the wish and hope for a better life on this Megalopoli called Lima.

    They normally work as cleaning persons for normal workers of the city, in an apartment or in a normal house, they are call Padron or Jefe (The house owner); they are just very normal and almost poor people compared with the economical occidental standards. But the Chola become the true mother of the kids, cleaning them, feeding them food, and protecting them during their first steps, they clean the house, wash the clothes, and they cook. For the Padron is a social status to have one or more Cholas! Normally they have one day free, because is preferred the Chola con “cama adentro”, means that they rest inside the house. They have for them in most of the cases foldable beds, contradictory called “Comodoy”! They wash theirselves usually in the laundry sink and sleep there (Laundry Area) as well. Some people are very proud to show their guest that they build a Micro room inside they Microapparments for the Chola.

    Talking about the free day, it is preferred Sunday, because the owners (of the Chola) are both at home. In some cases she earns (LaChola) more than one or both members of the couple, the important matter is the social status! What social status? Me personally I don’t know or understand since you contract( very low percentual, normally they work in black )a person that comes from the Andeans that unfortunately doesn’t, have light or current water or sanity services. Doesn’t know how to write and read in Spanish (Some speak a native language called Quechua) And you order them, to clean, take care of your children and cook for you! They can say that they have a Chola that is a great Chef as well. So comes Sunday and this women, after leaving the food prepared for the “Padrones”, goes away of their “jail”, just during the day. They need to come back before 8pm. They prepare their hair and dress in clean ironed clothes to wear, for this special day. With joy the old Chola, will go to visit her children, that in most of the cases are independent workers already, or sometimes little kids, that are taking care in the dirty sand by an old relative. She takes the money that she earned and gives almost all of it to take care of her young kids, or to help the bigger ones just married, to pay for the construction materials, to build them their own kind of house on the sand for the new family. The only property title of the land it that they put a Peruvian flag on a wood stand, as symbolic right!

    The young Cholas, went to the concerts of Chacalon, went to dance, and meet another young people having just few hours of time, listen to this music that touched deeply their feelings, and holds the perfumes of the green herbs of the andeans located very far away!
