It might be hard to imagine church planting in a world without big budgets, flashy websites, and ninja-like marketing tactics, but rest assured, it's done all over the world. We often define success in leadership by power and fame. The more people see a leader and the more people that answer to a leader means that leader has made it. But the overwhelming burden of concentrated power was not the way God designed us to live and lead. Instead, we ought to be focused on raising up and sending out more leaders to carry the mission forward. Ministry is a team sport. If you make all the decisions yourself, carry the weight of responsibility yourself, and look only to yourself for wisdom, then you're going to get burned out. When the Apostle Paul planted churches throughout the Mediterranean, he didn't directly plant all of the churches by himself. Instead, he raised up strike teams that go split up and reform as the mission dictated. These teams spread out and planted churches in more places than Paul himself could have ministered. Church was never meant to be a spectator sport. Unfortunately, when we plant churches, we often turn Christians into cheerleaders whose only role is to clap or say "amen" during services. Our true purpose though is to make disciples who are mobilized on mission. In Jesus' church, everyone gets to play and everyone has an important role.
