  • S1 E6 Conversations about… empathy-led theatre, bamboo toothbrushes and activism
    2023/03/12

It’s the last episode before we get ready for VAULT Festival! Rosie from CTC was back to have a chat with the lovely Becky Jones, producer and ‘token southerner’ of the fantastic Geordie theatre company ShyBairn Theatre.

Becky has also produced ShyBairn’s show ‘BURNOUT’, also on during the last weekend at VAULT! During Rosie and Becky’s convo, they found a lot of common ground between both shows - especially the importance of using research and real human stories when dramatising the effects of climate change, and finding joy and humour in times of darkness.

You can catch both our shows on the last weekend of VAULT 2023:

‘BURNOUT’ is at the Studio in The Vaults, Waterloo (Sat 18th & Sun 19th March): https://vaultfestival.com/events/burnout/

‘FREAK OUT!’ is at the Network Theatre, Waterloo (Sat 18th & Sun 19th March): https://vaultfestival.com/events/freak-out/

This production is supported using public funding from Arts Council England.

  • S1 E5 Conversations about… Godot, climate doomerism and finding our inner animal
    2023/03/07

In this episode, Rosie chatted to two polar bears and an Arctic skua… aka actors and co-founders of Hypok Theatre - Holly Darville, Charlie Lloyd and Aidan Alexander.

Hypok dive into their process of bringing their tragi-comic play ‘Treading Water’ to life, from its scratch origins at East 15 to its upcoming full-length debut at VAULT, which has included Kurzgesagt, Samuel Beckett, sustainable set-making, “light anthropomorphism” and everything in between. Sounds intriguing? You’ll have to listen to find out why!

CTC’s ‘FREAK OUT!’ and Hypok’s ‘Treading Water’ are united in our explorations of how we as individuals try to remain hopeful and resist inaction when faced with impending climate doom over which we are told we have no control, and how it’s never too late to try and make a difference.

Don’t miss ‘Treading Water’ at VAULT Festival 2023 at the Studio in The Vaults, Waterloo THIS WEEKEND: https://vaultfestival.com/events/treading-water/

And come see our show ‘FREAK OUT!’ at VAULT Festival 2023 at the Network Theatre, Waterloo on the 18th & 19th March: https://vaultfestival.com/events/freak-out/

  • S1 E2 Conversations about... salmon, shopping lists and sustainable practice
    2023/02/21

In this episode, Claudia chatted to co-founder/writer James Ireland and co-founder/Director Kate Bauer from ecological gig theatre company Bradán Theatre.

In this conversation we discuss making work with research, avoiding climate burn-out and how to cultivate a sustainable creative practice as artists. We also talk extensively about salmon, of course.

It was particularly to exciting discover that both FREAK OUT! and My Lover Was A Salmon In the Climate Apocalypse share the theme of the way climate anxiety manifests in our daily lives and interpersonal relationships. Lots of food for thought.

Go see ‘My Lover Was a Salmon in the Climate Apocalyspe’ on the 28th Feb- 5th March at the Pit: https://vaultfestival.com/events/my-lover-was-a-salmon-in-the-climate-apocalypse/

Come and watch our show FREAK OUT! - at the Network Theatre, Waterloo, London on 18th and 19th March 2023! Tickets are available on the VAULT Festival website.
