  • 23: Wise Money Management with guest Troy Noor
    2018/11/08
Troy Noor is the father of eight children and a partner at Boulevard Wealth Management. He joined Bob Willbanks on The Thrive! Podcast to discuss the topic of money and wealth. Troy talks about the common misconception that money is evil. He notes that the Bible says "the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil" in 1Timothy 6:10. If we love money more than God then we have placed money on the level of an idol, and then problems arise. Money is a tool we use to provide for the needs of our family and to further God's kingdom. Troy discusses the values exercise new clients are walked through when working with Boulevard Wealth Management. The following three questions are at the core of the process: * Imagine you had all the money in the world. What would you do? * Imagine you have just five years left to live. What do you do with the time? * Imagine this is your last day on earth. Do you have any regrets? Bob and Troy talked about the three ways Christians can relate to money. Where do you see yourself in the following list? 1. They make money an idol 2. They become a slave to money 3. They are master over their money Troy answers the question "Is it Biblical to accumulate wealth?" He responds by noting if we are so attached to our wealth that we can't follow Jesus, we need to reevaluate. If we are using wealth to provide for our families and further the kingdom of God we are masters of the wealth and using it to a good end. • 20: Working Women of Faith, Part One, with guest T.J. Tison
    2018/10/11
When T.J. Tison started her business over a decade ago, she noticed a lack of resources for women about working in a godly way. As she followed God's call to write about book to help fill this gap, she noted differences in the challenges men and women face in their work lives. Women most prominently struggle with guilt in regards to work. When women are at work they feel guilty that they aren't at home, and when they are at home, they feel guilty that they aren't working. In her book, Killing Wonder Women, T.J. strives to show women they don't need to be all things, to all people, all of the time. Rather she encourages women to identify who they are and who God has made us to be. T.J. launched Working Women of Faith to build a community of women who can be real with each other and encourage each other in all aspects of their life. As T.J. leads small group meetings for working women in the Twin Cities, MN suburbs, she has identified repeated issues women encounter as they balance faith, life, and work. How to operate in a toxic work environment. How to embrace who they are and what God has called them to do. How to lead like Jesus. How to manage all the varied responsibilities of a woman. T.J. seeks to share Biblical truth with working women as they navigate the issues they face each day.
