Hey Doc! This week on the pod, I got to sit down with Dr. Rasheeda Hall, an associate professor, nephrologist, and national research award winner who’s also the founder of Make Internal Shifts, a career coaching program for women of color in academic research. From building one of the few geriatric nephrology clinics in the world to leading multi-million dollar NIH-funded research initiatives, Dr. Hall is proof that you can be deeply academic, highly strategic, and boldly entrepreneurial—all at once.
In this episode, we dive into the underrecognized emotional labor of academic research, why women physicians often minimize their achievements, and how coaching can completely transform the way you see yourself and your potential. Dr. Hall shares her journey into medicine, how she discovered coaching through a grant at Duke, and the moment she realized her lived experience was more than enough to start a business that changes lives.
We also talk about the courage it takes to start something of your own, the mindset shifts required to step into visibility, and how entrepreneurship is teaching all of us to bet on ourselves in bigger ways. This is a conversation about impact, identity, and making space for your boldest dreams—even if you still work a 9 to 5.
