Sorry about the delay. I try to have the podcast out on Monday but this week got away from us. (The dog ate my homework.) Good News! Sandra is here to stay!
Marian Anderson was an amazing contralto best known for her concert at the Lincoln Memorial in 1939 after the DAR refused to allow her to sing at Constitutional Hall. There were 75,000 people-black and white. Follow this link to hear her amazing voice at this concert!

I have to clarify a few dates.
The Civil Rights Act of 1866 (14 Stat. 27–30, enacted April 9, 1866, reenacted 1870) This bill mandated that "all persons born in the United States," with the exception of American Indians, were "hereby declared to be citizens of the United States." The legislation granted all citizens the “full and equal benefit of all laws and proceedings for the security of person and property.” https://history.house.gov/Historical-Highlights/1851-1900/The-Civil-Rights-Bill-of-1866/
The Civil Rights Act:
This act was signed into law on August 6, 1965, by President Lyndon Johnson. It outlawed the discriminatory voting practices adopted in many southern states after the Civil War, including literacy tests as a prerequisite to voting.
