In our series debut, Deb and MaryAnne introduce you to the tragic death of five-year-old Zoey Felix and the shortcomings of the child welfare system. Little Zoey was discovered unresponsive at a gas station in Topeka, Kansas in October 2023. As we investigate further, we highlight the numerous reports of neglect and abuse made to authorities. Further discussion delves into the response of law enforcement and child welfare agencies, questioning their handling of this case.

Zoey was eventually placed in her father's care due to the numerous abuse charges and neglect charges her mother had on file. We'll hold a deep discussion on these circumstances, then focus on the actions and decisions made by Kansas authorities and the flaws in the child welfare system.

The conversation highlights the criteria for determining ideal living conditions and the responsibilities of caseworkers, the role neighbors played in supporting Zoey and the lack of communication, plus intervention from DCF.
