Ep08: The Role of Coaching in Making Africa work for Africans.

  • サマリー

  • The benefits of coaching are increasingly well documented and understood, and the impact that it can have on people's lives is undeniable.

Yet, despite the many benefits of coaching, the reality is that less than 5% of the African market has access to coaches.

My guest in this episode, Dr. Modupe Taylor – Pearce feels it's time for all of us to change that, so that more Africans are exposed and can benefit from coaching.

In this episode, we discuss the role that coaching plays in making Africa work for Africans.

Dr. Modupe Taylor – Pearce is a scholar and practitioner of organizational development and leadership, and a leadership Coach and Facilitator.

Over the past three decades, he has successfully coached and trained leaders in Africa, North America and Europe. His passion for leadership enhancement was born out of his experiences as a cadet in the U.S. Military Academy (West Point) and as a military officer serving in combat in the Sierra Leone Civil War where he was shot twice.

As the only Sierra Leonean with a PhD in Leadership, Modupe was the founding Dean of the African Leadership University School of Business, an institution providing a Pan-African MBA degree to Africa's mid-career professionals.

He is the Founder and CEO of BCA Leadership, an organization that has impacted over 3000 African leaders with coaching and knowledge-sharing services. He leads a team of thirty-nine Coaches across Africa and he is the curator of The Made in Africa Leadership Conference.

A TEDx speaker, Modupe has authored two books on leadership (“Striking Sustainable Success” and “Tough Love”) and a journal article in the International Journal of Leadership in Education.

He is an alumnus of Capella University, Cornell University and the United States Military Academy.

    Highlights of this episode;

◾ Modupe shares how his personal story how being in the military and having a near death-experience, played a big role in harnessing his passion for great leadership and fueling his desire to support leaders to make Africa work for Africans.

◾ He looks into the four gaps that are in the leadership space, and how coaching fits in.

◾ He shares the challenges on dealing with high-level executives as a coach and how to overcome them

◾ He shares his views on the importance of credentialing and bespoke local coaching methods for African clients

◾ Modupe shares his views on pricing of coaching services (this ALONE is worth listening to this episode, trust me)

◾ He argues that all coaches and leaders should own the challenge to increase access to coaching and bring down average pricing, if we truly want to make Africa work for Africans.

Next week, we will change gears and we will talk about social media and marketing.

If you want to know how to leverage social media to market your coaching services, join me next week when I'll be interviewing Akua Nyame-Mensah on how she leveraged social media to market her coaching services.
