  • Embracing Awe and Mystery
    2023/08/08

When Jesus was asked a question, he hardly ever offered a direct answer. He was more likely to share a story or ask another question in response. From the early years of the church, mystics informed the theology and culture of the Christian Faithful.

Along the way, however, we have shifted more and more giving answers, proclaiming absolute truth and even certainty in many cases. But is this more of a byproduct of modern convention, rather than following in the way of Christ?

In this episode, we explore the need for awe and mystery, both in our worship settings, but also in our own respective faith walks, and our guests share stories of the power of awe and mystery in their own lives.

  • Does Today’s Church Need a Revival?
    2023/08/08

Revival is at the heart of the Christian story. From the inspired fires of Pentecost to the revival at Cane Ridge, Kentucky in 1801, it is particularly significant in the beginnings of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

But are we, as  communities of faith, in need of another revival? If so, what might that look like in the 21st century?

In this episode we explore these questions and others related to the vitality and relevance of the Christian Church today, and particularly in the Colorado Rocky Mountain Region. We spoke with two pastors who are living out revival in their own communities, and they share what they believe we need, as followers of Jesus, to revive the movement that began two thousand years ago.

Our first guest is Reg Cox, who has been a pastor for twenty-one years. Reg now manages a nonprofit in Lakewood, Colorado called Lakewood Connects, which connects local churches together and facilitates coordination of support services among churches, local business, government entities and others.

We asked him whether he believes we’re in need of a new revival, and how a shift in perspective may help us get there.

  • Toxic Individualism and Spiritual Poverty
    2023/06/21

The values of rugged individualism, willful self-reliance and of being “self-made” run deep in American culture, and they have a long and storied history. But how do these values align with Christian values? How has the “American Dream” impacted the culture and norms within American churches, and have they led to a diminishment of our individual and collective spiritual lives?

In this episode of Even here, we explore the prominence of toxic individualism and its role in our culture’s apparent spiritual poverty. We speak with four guests who have theological, social and practical perspectives to share on how our American way of life has coexisted alongside Christianity for more than two centuries.
