  • Episode 27 - Part VII WAPOL
    2025/03/30

    Send us a text

Welcome to Part VII of my eight part series about my time with WA Police.

I thought changing stations would bring relief, but boy was I was wrong. Moving to Narrogin wasn’t an escape, it was a deeper dive into the harsh reality of a broken system. The culture of the agency was toxic, and no matter where I went the issues followed.

The weight of it all finally broke me. I had a breakdown at work and was subsequently diagnosed with PTSD - Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Instead of support, I was met with an organisation that didn’t care about the individual, only the system. I was failed in every possible way as I was pushed through the process of medical retirement and discarded like I didn’t matter.

In this episode, I share what it was like stepping into yet another storm, where the damage wasn’t just from the job but from those who were meant to have my back, where the weight of frontline work was made heavier by an organisation that failed to support its own. It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s a truth far too many officers have lived.

Welcome to Part VI of my 8 episode series about my time with WA Police.

In this episode, I take you back to my time in Leonora, a chapter that shaped me in ways I never expected. As my first regional posting, I arrived with the best intentions of bringing peace and connection to the wider community. However, it became the beginning of the end of my career.

The weight of organisational and operational trauma took its toll, marking a turning point I couldn’t ignore. I had to make a decision to leave the station prior to my tenure completion to escape a complete mental breakdown.

But despite the challenges, my time there was also filled with deep respect and learning. I had the privilege of immersing myself in Indigenous culture, forming beautiful friendships and gaining a profound appreciation for the strength and spirit of the community.

Before we begin, I want to issue a gentle caution. Many of the stories I share will be raw, confronting and hard to listen to. But these are just a glimpse into the incidents I faced. But they’re important, because this is the reality of frontline work and it’s time we talk about it.

  • Episode 23 - Part V WAPOL
    2025/02/02

    Send us a text

Welcome to Part V of my 8 episode series about my time with WA Police.

Today, I’m diving into a pivotal chapter of my life, my time at a police station where I had the unique opportunity to learn more about drugs, the not so good side of life and the complexities of policing. It was a time of immense growth and challenge where I was fortunate to work with a super supportive team and learn from an incredible sergeant who taught me invaluable lessons about leadership and resilience.

But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Alongside the camaraderie and learning experiences, there were darker moments including instances of bullying and gaslighting, as well as incidents where welfare and mental health support were glaringly absent. These realities added layers of difficulty to an already demanding environment.

Before we begin, I want to issue a gentle caution. Some of the incidents I’ll share may be confronting or hard to listen to. I’ve taken care to redact all identifying details and will provide only a brief overview to respect privacy and maintain focus on the broader lessons from my experience.

Thank you for joining me on this journey as I unpack the highs, the lows and the lessons learned during my time on the front line at Bayswater Police Station.
