Born in Brisbane, Mark played over 100 first-grade games for Norths, Valleys, and Redcliffe, before transitioning into a successful coaching career that included stints at Redcliffe, Eastern Suburbs, the Melbourne Storm, and even coaching Queensland at Origin level.

In this episode, Mark reflects on:

    • The early years of the Origin concept and what it meant to be part of it
    • Representing Australia during the golden era of international footy
    • Life after playing — the highs and pressures of NRL and Origin coaching
    • How the game has evolved and his insights into today’s generation

A true thinker of the game, Mark shares stories from the field and the coach’s box, offering a rare look at Queensland rugby league through both lenses.

  • Ep 40 1995 State of Origin Series | Part 2
    2025/05/14

In this second and final instalment of our 1995 Origin 30-Year Anniversary Special, Trevor Gillmeister, Billy Moore, and Ben Ikin return to take us inside one of the most courageous and emotional victories in Maroons history — the Game III triumph at Lang Park.

With the series already secured, Queensland entered Game III battered, bruised, and still written off by the experts. What followed was a gritty, defiant performance that completed a remarkable 3–0 clean sweep and cemented this team’s place in rugby league folklore.

In this episode, the boys reflect on:

    • Gillmeister’s legendary effort to play after checking himself out of hospital
    • The brutal exchanges and explosive all-in brawls
    • Ben Ikin’s breakout moment and first Origin try at just 18 years old
    • Jason Smith’s masterclass, Bartrim’s consistency, and Lam’s brilliance
    • The brotherhood, belief, and emotion that powered the ‘95 Maroons

This was more than just a series win — it was a cultural moment that reshaped Queensland’s Origin identity.

  • Ep 39 1995 State of Origin Series | Part 1
    2025/05/07

1995 State of Origin 30-Year Anniversary Special – Part 1

Featuring FOG #51 Trevor Gillmeister, FOG #75 Billy Moore, and FOG #89 Ben Ikin
    Hosted by Mark Braybrook

In this special edition of the FOGS Queenslander Podcast, we kick off a two-part deep dive into one of the most iconic and unexpected series victories in State of Origin history: Queensland’s 3-0 clean sweep in 1995.

With the 30-year anniversary of that unforgettable series fast approaching, Trevor Gillmeister, Billy Moore, and a then-teenage debutant Ben Ikin sit down with host Mark Braybrook to reflect on the underdog Maroons team that stunned the rugby league world.

Dubbed “Fatty’s Neville Nobodies”, this Queensland side was written off before a ball had even been kicked. With the Super League war ruling out most of their star players, coach Paul Vautin assembled a passionate and largely unheralded group of players who went on to defy the odds and etch their names into Origin folklore.

In Part 1, the panel relives:

    • The shock of being selected amid the Super League chaos
    • The build-up to Game I and that 2–0 defensive masterclass
    • The “Queenslander” war cry echoing through the SFS tunnel
    • The brutal opening scrum and brawls of Game II at the MCG

Raw, honest, and filled with legendary stories — this is Origin nostalgia at its best.
