Jesus often used the analogy of a shepherd and sheep to impart many lessons during His time on Earth, as it was relatable to most people. This metaphor was also chosen because sheep are defenseless creatures, much like humans, who require a good shepherd to lead and safeguard them.

God does not judge us by our outward appearance, nor by our mistakes; He looks at our hearts. If we are to follow in His footsteps, we must learn to do the same.

When we become saved one of the promises we get is to be able to cast our cares on God so we can live a life of peace.
