  • EP 5: The Power of Prog
    2024/08/28

Today we speak with siblings Sarah & Jeff Teets from MindMaze, a four piece progressive/power metal band from the Lehigh Valley, PA. Since their formation in 2012, they've released 3 full-length albums as well as some singles and an EP that fuse elements of hard rock, traditional metal, progressive metal and power metal together to create a unique sound. Musically, MindMaze features powerful female vocals, melodic and memorable guitar hooks, taking inspiration from bands such as Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Savatage, Riot and Saxon. The band has focused on delivering 100% live, high energy performances filled with spontaneity. They've toured all over the US and Canada, including performing at the famed Whisky A-Go-Go in Los Angeles and legendary niche festival ProgPower USA in Atlanta. The band is currently working on their 4th full-length album due out in 2025.

In this interview, Sarah & Jeff give insight into some of the nightmares they’ve run into that come with being a touring metal band.

For over 20 years, Eric has co-led Sapphire, one of NEPA’s biggest 80’s tribute bands, as well as playing “The Starchild” Paul Stanley in the KISS tribute Cold Gin. He has been an actor and producer of several films and has had original music from his band State of Shock featured in several soundtracks. Throughout his career in the music industry, Eric roadied for notable rock acts such as Motorhead, Warrant, Slaughter, FireHouse, L.A. Guns, King’s X, Galactic Cowboys, Blue Oyster Cult, and Joan Jett.

In this episode, Eric talks about auditioning for and being invited to join 80’s radio-rock icons Survivor (“Eye of the Tiger”) in the late 90’s and how an ongoing trademark lawsuit canceled their European tour the night prior to their departure.
