The podcast begins with each guest highlighting the mission of their respective community foundations. The podcast continues with each one of them describing how they got connected with Good Tidings and the breadth of their 30-year partnership. The teams highlight the misconception that each team’s need to fundraise and the challenges and new programming that came out of COVID. College brought him west to attend Stanford University with no intention of becoming a professional sports broadcaster. Once the English Major started broadcasting Stanford University games, he caught the broadcasting bug and never looked back. Dave highlights his quick rise to broadcasting Major League Baseball games for the San Francisco Giants. The podcast then turns to discuss the missions of both the Giants Community Fund and the Good Tidings Foundation and how these two great charities have partnered together for the past 25 years. On today’s episode, Larry chats with his friend, Grammy award winning singer-songwriter and Official Spokesperson of the Good Tidings Foundation, Jason Mraz. The interview takes place in Jason’s home studio located at his cleverly named property, The Mranch, where he explains what takes place on his 18 acres in Oceanside, CA. From there, Jason and Larry quickly dive into a recent benefit concert that Jason hosted highlighting eight children’s charities in San Diego County. Each of these diverse organizations performed one of Jason’s songs at the event entitled, “Kaleidoscope”, in front of thousands of guests. The conversation flows around the desire to help more under-represented and under-resourced youth. The Good Tidings Foundation and the Jason Mraz Foundation have partnered to create two amazing artistic spaces at the San Diego Young Artist Music Academy and A.R.T.S. in National City. In the coming year, GT and Jason will once again partner on an artistic makeover for another deserving charity.

Tyson describes his storybook upbringing in Oakland and how he stayed local to play baseball from High School to College to the Big Leagues. He goes on to elaborate on his post playing passion of providing baseball opportunities to the kids of Oakland and beyond with his non-profit – Loyal To My Soil. This new venture provides free camps, equipment and funding to the under resourced youth in the East Bay. Tyson goes onto to add how he hopes to influence the game of baseball in the future.

On today’s episode, Larry interviews the Founder of The Aloha Award – Mark Hartmann. The conversation starts out with Mark sharing his unique upbringing in the Panama Canal Zone and how the ocean created a lifelong calling. A successful career in finance was followed by a teaching stint at Stanford Business School which led to an opportunity to work for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Mark was then faced with a life altering medical diagnosis which reminded him of his love for the ocean and all the good that comes from it. His goal was to honor all the charitable people doing good in and around the ocean as well as providing financial capital that is much needed in this industry. Thus, The Aloha Award was born.

    This episode of the Good Tidings Podcast, finds host Larry Harper, sitting in the dugout of Oracle Park just prior to a Giants game interviewing the first female coach in MLB history – Alyssa Nakken. The conversation starts out with Alyssa sharing her love of softball and baseball while growing up in the Northern California town of Woodland. Alyssa shares with Larry how her opportunity came to be with the Giants. Coach Nakken discusses her passion for helping women thrive in a male dominated sport and how the Giants have provided that access. Earlier this year, she succeeded Buster Posey as the Commissioner for the Junior Giants – the flagship program for the Giants Community Fund. Alyssa is a firm believer, that so many life skills can be learned on a baseball field where 30,000 kids can play for free thanks to this program. Good Tidings is the official partner of the San Francisco Giants in building the fields for Junior Giants.
