Even in group dynamics where much of the time is spent talking, the whole body remains engaged, as it does in all human activities. In this podcast series on group dynamics and the body, internal arts practitioner Shinichi Iova-Koga and Roland Schuster discuss Butoh dance and Dragon Dao Yin.
Butoh, influenced by various traditional and avant-garde perspectives, is a deeply expressive dance, while Dao Yin is a component of Daoist internal arts. Specifically, Dragon Dao Yin, taught by Shinichi Iova-Koga, integrates elements of Qi Gong and Dao Yin, though it fundamentally remains a Dao Yin practice.
Qi Gong is nourishing, like eating, as it builds and develops energy in the body. Dao Yin, on the other hand, focuses on cleansing, removing "pathogenic Qi" from the body. Although Dao Yin does not directly relieve tension, the process of removing "pathogenic Qi" can result in a more relaxed body.
Shinichi emphasizes that balancing the body is a continuous process.
