In this episode, I'm excited to give you an insight into my life's journey and the incredible path I've traveled over the past quarter-century once I started my home business and why my radio show and podcast came into existence. Growing up, my heart brimmed with a profound affection for animals. I cherished the dream of becoming a veterinarian—a dream that was colossal in scope. Ohio State University, with its eminent vet school, was my dream destination. I was so enthusiastic about this path that I even attended a career day they hosted for prospective vet school aspirants while I was in middle school. But reality swiftly caught up with me. The arduous journey of becoming a vet—endless years of schooling and a deep dive into science—seemed daunting. Admittedly, science wasn't my strong suit, though I did harbor a soft spot for chemistry. So, my initial dream dissolved rather abruptly, leaving me questioning what I should pursue for the rest of my life. Now, it's important to understand that I've always been a math enthusiast—it was my favorite subject, without a doubt. By the time I graduated high school in 1994, computers were just starting to revolutionize the world. But digital fields that I'm passionate about today, like online marketing or web design, were still almost non-existent. So, drawing on my love for math, I decided on teaching it, which seemed the most rational path at the time. But after five years of college and one and a half years in the classroom, I realized teaching was not my destiny. The monotony was oppressive, driving me to tears on my journey home each day—it was pure misery. Again, I found myself uncertain about my next step. However, my time in college revealed surprising new possibilities. Being part of the honors program, I found myself in an English class where the final project involved designing a basic website about our favorite author studied during the semester. In the process of crafting this website, I acquainted myself with HTML and CSS, and the project turned out to be a thrilling endeavor. I aced it, leading me to discover my passion for self-learning. I decided to deepen my understanding of web design, cultivate more complex skills, find clients, and start building websites to earn my living. It wasn't a simple path, especially during a time when digital tools like social media, online marketing, and email lists weren't there to bolster business growth. Getting the first client was a challenge—I can't recall how it happened. But once I did, the word spread, and more customers started pouring in, despite the slow initial pace. While setting up my web design business, I kept a part-time job. I divided my time between working at a prominent Christian book and Bible publishing company in Nashville and managing my own business. I went a step further, converting my web design company into an S corp—a process that was tedious in a time before LegalZoom and its seamless business registration process. Thankfully, my mother's business background helped. We navigated the process together, submitting forms and waiting anxiously for approval. A couple of months later, it arrived—Complete Faith Web Design Inc. was officially established. Over the following years of client interactions, I encountered remarkable people, including Tammy and Trent Lenderink. Tammy Trent, a popular Christian pop music artist, and Trent Lenderink, her entrepreneurial husband, hired me to manage Tammy's artist website and create a new one for Trent's business. Tragedy struck in September 2001 when Trent lost his life in a scuba diving accident during a missions trip in Jamaica. Tammy was devastated, ready to abandon her ministry and music career. However, divine grace intervened. She was invited to participate in the Women of Faith conferences. She chose to share her story of despair and healing, but she needed support. Trusting our friendship that had already been built, she asked me to accompany her on this journey. Fast forward 20 years, and I continue to serve as Tammy's ministry coordinator. This role has offered incredible opportunities—from event management to music and book deals—which have significantly honed my skills. In addition to this, I still continue to build websites and create marketing materials. I also launched a nonprofit 501c3, the Shelli Huether Honor Run Inc., in memory of my friend Shelli, a Tennessee Air National Guard member who tragically died in a 2020 plane crash. This organization orchestrates annual running events to raise funds for military families. Recently, I also began my brand, Be Healthy and More, which I formed into an LLC. My mission is to assist others, whether in their physical, emotional, or spiritual health journeys, or in their relationships and businesses. This passion stems from the self-learning journey I've embarked on over the past 25 years. It's been a remarkable ride, and I know many of you are where I was—fresh out of ...
