    Your mind is continuously analyzing your internal and external environment, for hints of where rewards are located. Because the cue is the first indication that we're close to a reward, it naturally leads to a craving. This is interesting because it happens so fast. You would think you feel a craving first and then seek out the reward. But there's always something that triggers that craving. The key is to slow down and find what the cue is - what is triggering your craving?

    Every craving is linked to a desire to change your internal state. James Clear says in his book, for example: "You do not crave smoking a cigarette, you crave the feeling of relief it provides." Or another example: "You do not want to turn on the television, you want to be entertained." Everyone is different. Being self-aware of your thoughts, feelings and emotions will help you figure out how to break the habit that is not serving you and create a new one that will set you up for success.

    The Habit loop is in your control. By being aware of these four stages: Cue - Craving - Response - Reward is the key to creating good habits and breaking the bad ones that are slowing down your life.
