Sustaining a career as a quick bowler to the age of 38 takes some doing. As Steve bowled his last ball in the first class game he was able to look back on 597 wickets taken in Australian and English cricket, principally with Western Australia, Queensland and Sussex.

Retirement isn't as neat as drawing a line and moving on though.

We were glad to have Steve join us to discuss his experience of leaving the game and the lessons he's picked up now the boots have been hung up.

Simon's appearance give us a chance to look at retirement in a different way. Having debuted for Western Australia in 2013, after successes he encountered problems with his bowling action. Thoughts of giving up the game were never far away.

Instead, even after leaving WA in 2020 he has remained committed to playing first class cricket and has been rewarded with a return with Victoria where he is now based.

We enjoyed this opportunity consider the topic from a different perspective.

We were glad to hear more of his route to the first class game and the nature of his retirement which led to lows before building a new life through brand new experiences.

The honesty in sharing his struggles and the key messages are ones we were grateful to hear.
