  • Episode 3: All the Queer Cats in Oregon and Utah
    2023/05/14

    Alex (they/them), Antra (she/her), and Aubrey (she/her) discuss East Creek Art, the upcoming QueerCat firing event happening at East Creek Art, and the culture and pedagogy surrounding the Utah State University woodfire program. Midroll detailing contributors to the QueerCat firing and an upcoming article in Oregon Business Magazine, along with some terms that come up in the episode.

    Tokenism: the practice of making only a perfunctory or symbolic effort to be inclusive to members of minority groups, especially by recruiting people from underrepresented groups in order to give the appearance of racial or gender equality within a workplace or educational context.

    Virtue Signaling: an attempt to show other people that you are a good person, for example by expressing opinions that will be acceptable to them, especially on social media. It is indicating that one has virtue merely by expressing disgust or favour for certain political ideas or cultural happenings.

    Queer is a short-hand term for LGBTQIA+, and also the Q in the longer acronym.

    Trans is a term used to describe someone whose gender does not align with the one they were assigned at birth.

    Intersectionality is the way people’s social identities can overlap. It is an understanding that all inequality is not created equal. Intersectionality is a lens, a prism, for seeing the way in which various forms of inequality often operate together and exacerbate each other.
