  • 68: Kath, BestLife
    2022/07/30

It all started when Kath was searching for something stimulating, supported and fun for kids with special needs to do on the weekend. Kath’s daughter, Lara is social and outgoing, and also has intellectual and mild physical disabilities, which means she needs extra support for things like meals and dressing.

Unable to find anything suitable, Kath and her friend Tina – whose son Tom has down syndrome – decided to develop what they were looking for. And so BestLife was created. It started as a pilot program of Saturday night sleepovers – every teenager’s dream – for small groups in a house in Brisbane.

BestLife has been such a hit with kids and families that it has grown to include a variety of fun and supportive programs, sleepovers and more.

  • 67: Tracy, Paralympian Gold Medalist
    2022/07/23

Over the past week, Kym and Judith reflected on all of the amazing women we have spoken to since our Her House journey began back in January 2021 – and all of them are absolutely amazing – so this week we decided to revisit the interview we had with Tracy back in season 1.

An indigenous Australian, Tracy is a triple congenital amputee Paralympic swimmer who won two Gold medals at the 1992 Paralympic games in Barcelona. While she retired from swimming in 1994, she went on to represent Australia at the Shanghai Women’s Sitting Volleyball Tournament in 2008.

Tracy is hilarious, inspiring and extraordinary – and we’re sure you will enjoy listening (or relistening) to her amazing story.

  • 66: Heidi, Mindflip
    2022/07/16

This week we were delighted to have Heidi back to chat with us about her new book, Mindflip. The book provides an emotional toolbox to help kids and teens cope with today’s worries. It’s all about flipping your mind with easy and short exercises designed to flip the negative into a positive mindset.

While the book is aimed at 8 – 16 year olds, Heidi provides simple advice that we can all use – and we chat through some of these tips in our discussion with her.

Both Kym and Judith felt a lot calmer after talking to Heidi – so listen along and do a Mindflip! Enjoy xx

Sometimes when you speak to certain people, you’re completely blown away with how smart, clever and interesting they are – well that’s exactly how Kym and Judith felt this week when we spoke to Marguerette. She is like the sun coming out from behind the clouds and had so many interesting things to say and we were so transfixed and we talked for such a very long time that we had to make this a two parter so you could enjoy every, single, word!

Marguerette has recently written her first fantastic book called All Veils are Off, The True Housewives of Qatar. The book details her eight years spent living in the Middle East where she reveals the ups and downs of expat life, including death threats, bullying, unlikely friendships and much more!
