  • Research Your Novel
    2024/07/18

This panel on “Research Your Novel” is a collaboration between the New York City chapters of the Romance Writers of America and the Historical Novel Society. On July 13, 2024, Ursula Renee (A Bookie’s Odds) of the RWA moderated a panel of acclaimed authors from the Historical Novel Society. Stephanie Cowell (The Boy in the Rain ), Loretta Goldberg (Beyond the Bukubuk Tree), and Faith L. Justice (Becoming the Twilight Empress) shared the tricks, tools, pitfalls, and delights of doing scholarly, library, internet, and site visit research. We're pleased to present this joint venture to our members and hope to do more in the future with this and other writing organizations.

  • Gay Love on the Battlefront
    2024/07/06

The New York City Chapter of the Historical Novel Society presents this recording from a live presentation on June 25, 2024. Stephanie Cowell (The Boy in the Rain) is in conversation with two award-winning authors Loretta Goldberg (Beyond the Bukubuk Tree: a World War II Novel of Love and Loss) and Lance Ringel (Flower of Iowa) about writing their novels featuring military men struggling to sort out the challenges sparked by their unexpected mutual attraction in the cauldron of war during WWI and WWII. They discuss the genesis of their stories, the epic journeys both took in researching their times and places, and the difficulties in getting published. A fascinating discussion for our writer and reader members alike. More information available at our website: https://www.hnsnyc.org
