• Out of the Silos
    2023/03/17

In today’s episode of Home Equity we touch on a subject that is crucial for all REALTORS®: Fair Housing. Who better to discuss this than our very own fair housing guru, Jay Mitchell. The Nebraska native, 2018 VAR President, and 2023 NAR Fair Housing Advisory Committee Chair walks us through the differences between Fair Housing and DEI, explaining how differentiating between the two will actually allow us to practice both more effectively. Jay also recounts his personal experience with Fair Housing, touching on the importance of creating a welcoming environment for everyone, regardless of race, gender, or sexuality, and discusses the actions NAR has taken to mend past policies, proving to us that getting out of the silos is possible.

  • Always a Mom First
    2023/03/10

This episode of Home Equity was recorded on International Women’s Day, and we had the pleasure of sitting down with 2023 DEI Chair Marilyn Rivera.  A Puerto Rican native and co-owner of her own brokerage with her husband, Marilyn wears many hats but there is one that always comes first – being a mother. Marilyn talks about work life balance, being bilingual in the industry, and coming out of her shell. Her story is a testament to her dedication and hard work, but also a great example of how multifaceted women in the workplace are.

  • A Mother's PRIDE!
    2023/03/03

On this episode of Home Equity, Nicole had the pleasure of speaking to Holly Mitchell, one of HRRA’s new DEI Committee members. Holly walks us through her personal and professional journey with DEI, starting with her beginnings in real estate, her thoughts on DEI in the industry, and, of course, her pride and joy: her children. Holly’s experience is not an isolated one, but it sure is an inspiration to other parents and REALTORS®.

  • Generational Wealth: Shout it from the mountain top!
    2023/02/25

For our inaugural episode we celebrate the culmination of Black History Month and invited Whitney Rascoe, a young successful Black REALTOR® from Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, to discuss the importance of generational wealth and the power of knowledge. Whitney tells her story of becoming the youngest home owner in her family and how attending one home ownership class changed her legacy forever. Whitney’s story is a testament to her dedication, but also an example of a much greater need: homeownership education in underserved communities is an immediate need.
