  • Savoy Auto Museum: An Automotive Adventure in Car History
    2025/07/17

Step inside the fascinating world of automotive history as we explore the impressive Savoy Automobile Museum in Cartersville, Georgia. Our guide Mary Agruza takes us on a captivating journey through time, revealing surprising connections between America's pioneering past and its automotive future.

The museum houses a remarkable Studebaker collection that tells an unexpected story – before becoming car manufacturers, Studebaker built the Conestoga wagons that carried settlers westward during America's expansion. Even Abraham Lincoln likely knew about Studebakers! We witness the brand's evolution from wagon maker to innovative automaker, featuring everything from the curved-glass 1927 President Lincoln to the distinctive "coming and going" 1948 Starliner Coupe.

Particularly fascinating is how Studebaker navigated financial challenges while competing with larger manufacturers. When automotive fins became popular in the 1950s, they cleverly bolted fiberglass fins onto existing models rather than redesigning entire vehicles. The collection showcases the Golden Hawk – considered by many to be America's first muscle car – and the beautiful Avanti that unfortunately came too late to save the struggling company.

Beyond just displaying vehicles, the Savoy Museum features a theater with the Southeast's largest curved screen and hosts rotating exhibits. Coming soon are showcases featuring James Brown's car collection and vehicles connected to music history.

We also take the 2025 Chrysler Pacifica for a spin, discovering how modern minivans have evolved into sophisticated family vehicles with innovative features like stow-and-go seating. Despite being Chrysler's only current model, the Pacifica demonstrates impressive versatility with luxury appointments typically found in higher-end vehicles.

Whether you're a dedicated car enthusiast or simply appreciate the stories behind American innovation, this episode offers a window into our automotive heritage and the museums preserving it. Subscribe now and join us every Saturday morning for more automotive adventures!

  • Shifting Gears, Shifty Dealers, more Ford Recalls, and Classic Car Prices
    2025/07/15

Car buying should be exciting, not a minefield of potential fraud and deception. Yet two alarming lawsuits from Florida reveal the dark side of automotive retail, where unsuspecting customers discovered their "new" vehicles had hidden histories. One buyer found his pristine Land Cruiser had nearly 5,000 miles on the odometer despite being sold as factory-fresh, while another learned her Jeep had previously been titled to a leasing company—information deliberately concealed during the sale.

These cautionary tales highlight why thoroughly examining documentation before signing is crucial. As one host suggests, having an attorney review purchase papers might seem excessive, but could save thousands in the long run. While the vast majority of dealerships operate honestly, these instances remind us to verify everything independently, especially when significant investments are involved.

Meanwhile, Ford Motor Company has established an unfortunate industry record with 89 recalls issued so far this year—more than the next five manufacturers combined. Their latest recall affects 850,000 vehicles with potential fuel pump failures that could cause dangerous engine stalling. Ford claims to be taking a "more proactive approach" to safety issues, but the sheer volume raises questions about underlying quality control.

The automotive financing landscape continues to shift toward concerning territory. A record 19% of new vehicle buyers now commit to monthly payments exceeding $1,000, while 22% have stretched loan terms to 84 months or longer. These extended financing arrangements might make monthly payments more manageable but dramatically increase total ownership costs and potential negative equity situations.

Electric vehicle adoption faces headwinds as well, with new EV registrations dropping 5.9% in May—the second consecutive monthly decline despite attractive incentives. With the $7,500 federal tax credit set to expire September 30th, potential buyers should consider acting soon if an electric vehicle is in their future plans.

Whether you're shopping for your next vehicle or maintaining your current one, staying informed about these industr

  • Barn Finds, Vinyl Roofs, and the GMC Yukon Denali!
    2025/07/14

Step into the fascinating world of automotive treasures as we journey through the Savoy Automobile Museum in Cartersville, Georgia. Museum representative Mary Agrusa takes us on a captivating tour through their remarkable barn finds collection, where each vehicle tells an extraordinary story of discovery and preservation. From a GT350 Mustang with deliberately preserved deteriorating paint to the one-of-a-kind 1949 Packard Monte Carlo convertible built by Henney, these automotive time capsules reveal the passionate dedication of collectors and restorers.

The museum's fiberglass car collection offers another dimension of automotive history, showcasing rare and one-off vehicles that represent the DIY spirit of enthusiasts who once ordered kit cars from the back pages of automotive magazines. The Novetta stands as a testament to dedication, taking its owner 20 years to complete by piecing together parts from various sources, including Mini Cooper hinges and other creative solutions.

We dive into automotive styling history with Jeff's Car Culture segment on vinyl roofs – that distinctive styling trend from the 1960s through the early 1990s that gave fixed-roof cars a convertible-like appearance. While once the height of automotive fashion adorning everything from muscle cars to Corvettes, vinyl tops are now often considered problematic during restorations, trapping moisture and accelerating rust underneath their fashionable exterior.

Bringing us to the present day, our comprehensive review of the 2025 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate reveals why this luxury SUV commands attention. With its 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V8, distinctive baseball stitching interior, and comprehensive technology package including second-row entertainment screens, this $107,285 top-tier model represents the sweet spot between the Chevrolet Suburban and Cadillac Escalade.

  • From Classroom to Cruise Night: Danon's '78 Firebird Journey
    2025/07/11

Special In Wheel Time Replay - What happens when childhood dreams of muscle cars finally come true? Danon Hollinger joins us at the Lone Star Street Rod Association's 50th anniversary celebration to share her journey from Hot Rod magazine fan to proud owner of a gleaming white 1978 Pontiac Trans Am.

Unlike most girls growing up, Danon decorated her headboard with car magazine centerfolds instead of pop stars. Her fascinating story takes us from her early fascination with a high school crush's '69 Camaro to discovering something unexpected—a Trans Am with a poignant backstory. The previous owner had lovingly restored it for his son who, after a tragic accident, could never drive it. Now this beautiful machine has found new life with an owner who truly appreciates its power and presence.

The conversation takes a few detours through Danon's unique name (from an old Western film), her career as a teacher now enjoying retirement, and the modifications they've made to transform their Trans Am from drag racer to comfortable cruiser. Their upgrade to a Tremec five-speed transmission highlights the perfect balance they've struck between preserving vintage character and enhancing drivability.

We also explore the joy of car club culture as Danon shares adventures with her Houston-based Great Classics club—from "margarita meetings" to cross-country trips to shows in Reno and along the Mississippi coast. Her enthusiasm for decorating the Trans Am for Christmas parades and local charity events showcases how classic cars become more than possessions—they're vehicles for building community and creating lasting memories.

Later, Jeff presents his Car Culture segment featuring the best US cities for vintage car shows, from Detroit's Woodward Dream Cruise to the elegance of Pebble Beach. Tune in for a heartwarming reminder that automotive passion knows no boundaries—and sometimes the perfect car finds you when you least expect it.

  • Automotive Racing Insights: Courtney Enders & The NHRA
    2025/07/10

Special In Wheel Time Replay - Courtney Enders brings her infectious energy and deep motorsports knowledge to this episode as she discusses her groundbreaking new role with NHRA TV. Far from leaving her position at Flow Racing, she explains how she'll balance multiple responsibilities while bringing fresh perspectives to drag racing broadcasting after years of "knocking on their door."

The conversation takes listeners behind the scenes of Elite Motorsports' challenging 2023 season, where crew chief Mark Ingersoll's double lung transplant significantly impacted the team's performance. Despite this setback, Erica Enders still finished fourth in the championship standings—an achievement most racers would celebrate, but one that left the six-time champion "wildly disappointed" and hungrier than ever for 2024.

Courtney provides clarity on swirling rumors about Elite Motorsports entering Top Fuel, describing how Richard Freeman's premature announcement created "a storm of nonsense." She details the real obstacles they face, including NHRA rules preventing competitors from racing in multiple professional categories simultaneously. The team has even conducted timing tests to demonstrate how Erica could potentially compete in both Pro Stock and Top Fuel with proper scheduling.

The episode also features Don Armstrong's comprehensive review of the 2025 Chevy Silverado EV, highlighting its impressive 484-mile range capability, multi-function mid-gate that extends bed space to nearly 11 feet, and thoughtful interior design. His honest assessment addresses both strengths and ongoing challenges with charging infrastructure.

Whether you're a dedicated drag racing fan or simply curious about automotive innovations, this episode delivers insider perspectives on motorsports media evolution alongside practical insights about the electric vehicle landscape. • Hot Rod Culture with Scott Ingram: Vintage Rides
    2025/07/09

Special In Wheel Time Replay - Scott Ingram slides into the passenger seat with us, bringing along his showstopping orange 1932 Ford coupe and a treasure trove of hot rodding stories spanning nearly six decades. As one of the seven original founders of the Lone Star Street Rod Association, Scott represents the authentic spirit of hot rod culture—someone who believes these machines are meant to be driven hard and enjoyed thoroughly.

The striking orange '32 Ford sitting beside us isn't just for show. Scott has racked up an astonishing 350,000 miles on this beauty over 57 years of ownership, taking it deer hunting, towing other vehicles, and embarking on cross-country adventures that have touched both American borders and ventured into Canada. This isn't a garage queen; it's a living piece of automotive history that's been loved through use rather than preservation.

What truly sets Scott apart is his hands-on approach to hot rodding. From hand-louvering the hood to applying the paint job that still shines after 45 years, he's done it all himself. The car has evolved from its original configuration, now sporting a genuine 427 Ford engine from the '60s.

But Scott's mechanical prowess extends beyond his street rod. At 78 years young, he still races a front-engine dragster powered by a 317-inch nitro flathead producing a mind-boggling 554 horsepower. As he explains the intricacies of hand-seating valves and custom-building gaskets for this beast, his deep technical knowledge and passion for the craft become clear.

Beyond the machines themselves, Scott reminds us that the heart of hot rod culture beats in its community. Having attended the first Street Rod Nationals in Peoria back in 1970 (arriving in a Model A with a Chrysler engine), he's witnessed the evolution of the scene firsthand and formed friendships that have lasted half a century. When asked if he'd ever sell his beloved '32, his answer says everything about his relationship with this machine: "I'll give it away before I sell it."

  • From Savoy's Classic Cars to the Lincoln Nautilus's Modern Luxury
    2025/07/08

A special In Wheel Time replay - Ever wandered through a museum where cars aren't just machines, but masterpieces? Mary Agrusa takes us inside the Savoy Auto Museum in Cartersville, Georgia, where vehicles are displayed with the reverence typically reserved for fine art. "We consider this really more an art museum dedicated to the automobile," Mary explains, and her passion for automotive history shines through as she guides us through exhibits that tell stories beyond horsepower and torque figures.

Each vehicle comes with a reader board that doesn't just list specifications but delves into fascinating backstories—why a particular model succeeded or failed, its historical significance, or quirky facts about its design. Visitors can walk 360 degrees around most cars, appreciating them from every angle under specially designed lighting that showcases their sculptural qualities. From an untouched 1925 Model T about to celebrate its 100th birthday to the elegant lineup of Studebakers charting the company's evolution, the museum offers something for casual visitors and dedicated enthusiasts alike.

The Savoy isn't just preserving automotive history; it's inspiring the next generation. After their 1959 Plymouth Savoy named "Beatrice" participated in the Great Race (before unfortunately dropping two cylinders in West Virginia's mountains), local schools were inspired to build their own race cars for future competitions. This hands-on approach to automotive education perfectly complements the museum's mission to make car culture accessible and engaging for everyone.

Switching from classic to contemporary, Don Armstrong takes us behind the wheel of the 2025 Lincoln Nautilus, and his enthusiasm is immediate. With its door-to-door digital display spanning the entire dashboard, this midsize SUV redefines interior luxury. Assembled in Hangzhou, China, the Nautilus combines elegant exterior styling with a smooth turbocharged powertrain that achieves impressive fuel economy. As Don puts it, "It gets an A-plus for attractiveness," positioning it as a standout option in a competitive segment that includes the Mercedes-Benz GLC and Genesis GV70.
