This week we explore another introvert superpower: empathy. The English word empathy was first used in 1908. It’s a translation of the German term einfühlung, which literally means “in-feeling” or “feeling into”.
Empathy is a natural human ability, yet it’s one that has largely been lost. As children, we are taught to value reasoning over feeling. We learn to suppress or deny our emotions. This reduces our ability to experience our own and other people’s feelings.
However, empathy can be a superpower – especially in business. The ability to appreciate how your clients feel about your marketing and products leads to superior customer experiences. Which in turn can generate accelerated business growth.
At the end of the day, we’re all humans sharing the same highs and lows. Understanding this and bringing it into our work will help us create a more compassionate and resilient business world.
What you’ll learn on today’s episode:- The surprising origins of the term “empathy”.
- Why empathy has become a lost art in the modern world.
- How to develop empathy as a superpower.
- Why it’s important to maintain boundaries while practicing empathy.
