Judge Aileen Cannon's favoritism and bias in favor of Donald Trump is well-established. And the law provides that even the appearance of bias and favoritism (no actual bias/favoritism is necessary) warrants the removal of a judge from presiding over a case. The defendant charged with plotting a Trump assassination, Ryan Routh, filed a motion to have Cannon recuse herself from his case given that Trump is the victim. In a typically unpersuasive ruling, Cannon refused to leave the case, making it clear that Cannon just can't quit Trump or Trump-related cases.

Donald Trump held a hate rally at Madison Square Garden Sunday night. The reviews are in: NPR - "Off-color jokes, vitriol take over Trump Madison Square rally"; The New York Times - "Trump at the Garden: A Closing Carnival of Grievances, Misogyny and Racism"; and The New York Daily News - " RACIST RALLY". But one of the most troubling things revealed at the rally was Trump telling the crowd that he and House Speaker Mike Johnson have a "little secret" evidently designed to retain power after Trump loses the election. The good news is, unlike 2020 when Trump tried to unlawfully retain power, he is not president this time around - Joe Biden is.

After Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and his Republican legislators banned abortion in Florida after 6 weeks (at which point most women may not even know they're pregnant), 900,000 Floridians signed a petition to get abortion rights on the ballot as a constitutional amendment, designated as Amendment 4.

A pro-choice group called Floridians Protecting Freedom created a TV ad supporting Amendment 4. The commercial plainly and inarguably constituted political speech protected by the First Amendment.

Nevertheless, DeSantis and his henchmen issued cease and desist letters to 50 TV stations, threatening them with prosecution if they aired the pro-Amendment 4 commercial. Floridians Protecting Freedom filed suit in federal court seeking a restraining order prohibiting the state of Florida from violating their free speech rights.

A federal judge granted the request for a restraining order, pointedly informing DeSantis of the following in his written ruling - " Too keep it simple for the State of Florida: it's the First Amendment, stupid."

Recent reporting makes clear that Donald Trump is proudly and enthusiastically lawless. First, he announced that if elected he will fire Special Counsel Jack Smith - the very prosecutor who is pursuing Trump in two federal criminal cases - adding that he will fire him "within two seconds" of taking office. Of course, a president can't fire a special counsel, only an Attorney General can. Trump's lawlessness is reminiscent of Richard Nixon's "Saturday Night Massacre," when he ordered several DOJ officials to fire Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox who had subpoenaed Nixon's tapes. Neither Attorney General Elliot Richardson nor Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus would follow Nixon's corrupt order. By putting Judge Aileen Cannon on the short list to be his Attorney General, it feels like Trump may believe he has someone who would do his corrupt bidding and put a stop to his federal prosecutions by hook or by crook.

Many of us have waited a very long time for Special Counsel Jack Smith to file a motion to remove Trump-appointed Judge Aileen Cannon from presiding over Trump's criminal case in Florida. Unfortunately, Judge Cannon dismissed the case before Smith ever got around to filing a recusal motion. Then, the defendant who allegedly planned to assassinate Donald Trump - Ryan Routh - was arrested and Judge Cannon was assigned to Routh's case, in which Trump is the victim. Now, Routh's attorney has filed a motion to remove Cannon from presiding over Routh's case given Cannon's unusually close relationship to Trump. Glenn reviews Routh's motion and the prosecution's reply thereto.

At long last, the chickens have come home to roost for disgraced Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani. A judge has ordered that the 2 Georgia state election workers Giuliani defamed, Shaye Moss and Ruby Freeman, can now seize and sell Rudy's high-priced New York condo, his luxury cars, his expensive watch collection, his sports memorabilia, and can take control of money in his bank accounts. As the Hill reported, "Judge orders Giuliani to hand over assets to Georgia election workers." For some reasons Donald Trump is threatened by the fact that Kamala Harris worked at McDonald's in her youth. He has even accused her of making it up. So Trump decided that he would work at McDonald's for a day, but even THAT was exposed as a sham, a con, a show. As New York Magazine put it: "So in an effort to highlight his claim that Kamala Harris never worked at McDonald's, Trump pretended to work at a closed McDonald's where he served pretend orders to supporters pretending to be customers."
