Lamar Reviews - "Halloween Ends" (Airdate 10/21/2022) First off, if you believe that this is the end of the Halloween movies, I’d love to sell you an extended warranty on an ocean front timeshare in Colorado. This is the end of the latest trilogy based on the Halloween movie franchise. The only thing that will ever kill this thing, is lack of profits. I do believe you are going to hear hard core Halloween fans gripe and moan about this movie. They are going to say, “There is not enough of the Shape, Michael Myers, there is not enough stabbing, neck snapping, face stomping, and 1.75 MPH chase scenes, that the victim never wins. Every Halloween movie, good or bad has been basically the same. You have a mindless killer that murders people in the most gruesome manner imaginable, and cannot be killed. Shoot, stab, set on fire, doesn’t matter, he always pops back up. But this time it is different. If you look at the trailers it seems this is going to be a death match between Laurie Strode, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, the only girl to survive all the way through, and Michael. I’m not saying that they don’t see each other and have a tussle, but that is not the main point in the movie. This turns out to be more of a psychological thriller that examines the idea of the last two movies; is Michael Myers pure evil, or is evil something that is in everyone, and under certain conditions, be nurtured into its purest form inside anyone, giving the right circumstances? That last sentence is a deeper plot than all the Halloween movies put together. It has been a while since the last major bloody Halloween, and everybody is back to normal. Laurie is writing a book about her life so that she can face her fears and move on. Because people always want someone to blame, some of the people in the town hold her responsible for stirring up Michael Myers, and getting a bunch of people killed. Her granddaughter Allyson, played by Andi Matichak, has lost both parents and become a depressed loner. She meets Corey Cunningham, played by Rohan Campbell, who’s in his 20s and has a tragic incident in his past that has left him in the same shape as Allyson. Since they are kindred spirits, they become romantically intertwined. What makes this movie different is the main storyline in this movie is not Michael or Laurie, it is Corey. He starts out as a good kid, has a tragedy, the town turns their back, his peers bully him and make his life miserable. What happens to a good kid who is told over and over, he is a bad person? This is a totally different Halloween, and probably the most interesting one ever. But is that what Halloween fans want? I say, if all you want is Michael Myers killing people, there are a dozen of those Halloweens you can watch. Trust me, we still get Michael Myers, stabbing right along, and Laurie Strode, after fighting him for 44 years, is not putting up with his crap. This was a bold move, and only the box office will tell if it paid off or not. But never fear, even at this moment, somebody is writing a script for the next Halloween, and we will see another version within a couple of years. My Score: 4 Buds Learn more about your ad choices.
